About Mrs. Nulman
Hello, families, and welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! This will be my fourteenth year teaching, and my eighth year teaching at Amador Elementary. I have always loved teaching children and started by helping my mom in her in-home Montessori preschool, but it was actually when I was in another non-teaching job that I realized that teaching fulfilled my sense of purpose. Fourteen years later, I feel that the classroom is my happy place, and I strive to make it a happy place for all of you, too.
I grew up in Walnut Creek (my parents still live there today!), and received my bachelors degree from UCLA, majoring in art history and mass communications studies. I developed my teaching philosophy, aiming for educational equity and striving for developmentally enriching education for all students, at U.C. Berkeley, where I received my multiple subject teaching credential and Master's degree in Education.
My life is made so much better by my husband, Boris, and our two kids, Aria and Robin. Aria is almost eleven years old and starting middle school at Wells! She's vivacious and is constantly learning new things. She has inspired me to give students new ways to look and make sense of our world. Robin will turn seven in November, and is about to start first grade here at Amador! He's a perfect example of following your passions, and pushing yourself through your interests. I love watching how he notices and makes connections in his world. Amazing things will happen, and on a daily basis.
I aim to be a passionate person inside and outside of my classroom, and many of my interests become part of our classroom community. I love to travel, learn new languages, read, dance (I sometimes do the north-Indian classical dance Kathak) and be silly, play tennis, and discover new things. Finally, I love to challenge myself to maintain a growth mindset even when things get tough (if I ask that of students, it's only fair to put it on myself, too!) and continue to learn a lot every single day!
My goal for your children will be to help them find their passions, and help them to see how to further their learning lifelong. One way will be to develop themselves as readers. Buying books from Scholastic is a great way to grow your child’s personal library and our classroom’s as well! Please use code Q7HCJ to purchase books.
I look forward to getting to know students and their families this year. If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected]. Thank you!
